The application records the exact millisecond timestamps of each of your consecutive taps. It calculates the time differences between these taps and uses a rolling window of up to the last five taps to compute a precise mathematical average, which is then translated instantly into Beats Per Minute.
Is there a keyboard shortcut I can use instead of clicking?
Yes! If you are on a desktop or laptop device, you can simply tap the Spacebar on your keyboard. The application detects the key press automatically, triggers a visual button-press animation, and updates the BPM counter exactly as if you clicked the button.
How do I reset the counter to start measuring a new song?
You do not need to click a manual reset button. The tool features an automatic timeout function: if you stop tapping for 2 seconds, the internal timing history is cleared, and the display resets to "---" so you can immediately start measuring a new tempo.
Why does it take a few taps before showing a stable BPM?
The first single tap only marks the starting point, so a second tap is required to calculate the initial duration. As you continue to tap, the algorithm factors in up to five taps to filter out natural human timing inconsistencies, delivering a progressively more accurate and stable average with each tap.
